Among the core components of the refrigeration system, the condenser plays a crucial role. Once scale forms on the condenser, it will lead to an increase in thermal resistance for heat conduction. The increase in thermal resistance causes the heat transfer coefficient value to decrease. Since the condensing temperature is inversely proportional to the heat transfer coefficient, it will cause the temperature of the condenser to rise, and the condensing pressure will also increase accordingly. Moreover, the more severe the fouling of the condenser is, the more significantly the condensing pressure will increase.


To effectively address the issue of scale, there are mainly three methods for preventing and removing scale, each with its unique principle and applicable scenarios.


Mechanical descaling method

Mechanical descaling is an effective method that uses a flexible shaft tube washer to remove scale from condensers with steel cooling tubes, especially suitable for vertical shell and tube condensers. The operation process is as follows:


Close all the valves connecting the condenser to the refrigeration system to prevent refrigerant leakage or other substances from entering the system during the descaling process. Maintain the normal supply of cooling water to the condenser to provide cooling and flushing for the scraper during the descaling process.


The rotary scraping descaling uses a bevel gear-shaped scraper connected to a flexible shaft tube washer to perform rotary scraping descaling from top to bottom inside the vertical tubes of the condenser. During the rotation of the scraper, the heat generated by the friction with the pipe wall is cooled by the circulating cooling water, and at the same time, the scale, rust and other dirt removed are flushed into the water pool.

The principle of this mechanical descaling method is to use the rotation and vibration of the umbrella-shaped gear-shaped roller knife during the process of rotating and cutting into the cooling tubes to remove scale, rust and other impurities in the condenser cooling tubes. After the descaling is completed, all the water in the condensing water pool should be drained. The scale, rust and other contaminants removed from the bottom of the pool should be cleaned up thoroughly, and then water should be refilled to restore the condenser to a clean state.


2. Chemical acid washing descaling method

The chemical acid washing descaling method involves cleaning the condenser with a prepared weakly acidic descaling agent to make the scale fall off, thereby enhancing the heat transfer efficiency of the condenser. The specific operation steps are as follows


Prepare the descaling solution. Prepare the descaling solution in the acid washing tank and ensure that the concentration and composition of the solution meet the requirements. Start the acid washing pump to make the descaling agent solution circulate in the condenser's condenser tubes. Under normal circumstances, after 24 hours of circulating flow, the scale can basically be removed.

After stopping the acid washing pump, use a circular steel brush to pull and brush back and forth inside the inner wall of the condenser tube to further remove the remaining scale and rust, and then rinse the scale and rust clean with clear water. Rinse the descaling agent solution remaining in the pipe repeatedly with clean water until it is completely clean.
